An Unbreakable Will for Life

There are more amputees in one place per capita than any other according to the United Nations. Is some virulent disease ravaging an entire population? Yes. Colonization. The world watches as lands are "flattened". What a disgusting turn of phrase. How horrifically disconnected are our words for genocide? Lives and limbs brutally bombed, sniped, chemically erased, tortured, starved, and murdered for greed, with self proclaimed, fanatical, moral superiority, environmental death and the audacity to criminalize all forms of resistance and dissent.

Yet children and adults wish to live. They play, and laugh, share love and make music, despite their doctors kidnapped, their communities disappeared, journalists assasinated, their end celebrated, their fellow humans that dare to stop illegal weapons trade, illicit land theft, imprisoned, cut off by supporting financial institutions and attacked by educational institutions that profit from every evil they are meant to rise above.

Those who villified boycott, divestment and sanctions, have supported this progression of unabated murder. When they silenced peaceful dissent, feigned fear of representative protest, and peddled false histories to justify incesseant cruelty, they washed the hands of all who commit violence in their names and made a choice to embrace their part in enforcing genocide. I look to them, disgusted, disappointed and no longer willing to engage.

The people of Gaza resist, in their play, in their every breath and they should not have to. Not one action against them has sanction in matters religious, legal or moral. Not one indignity faced by these innocents is one that they alone will face. May we all find the ways in which to fight for those on the front lines of injustice everywhere and for our own sake as we sit a moments breadth from it.
